    Description

    Up for sale is this EXCEPTIONAL and RARE antique Chinese scholar art brush pot signed with a gilt four-character Hongxian mark and of the period (1915 - 1916).
    The brush pot is six-sided hexagonal shape and I believe made from carved Zitan wood with faux shell veneer on the sides.
    It is inscribed on three of the six panels with many characters and reveals the history of who this brush pot was made for.
    It says it was made for the important Qing Dynasty artist Wu Yahui 吴雅暉 and says it is cherished and personally used by this artist.
    More inscriptions in Chinese as written below I believe say this artist was assigned / given an important job and would be granted eternal life and be forever prosperous. Another line says it’s part of the Stop Cloud Mountain Pavillion Collection.

    An exceptional brush pot and rare antique relic! This artist Wu Yahui made famous paintings for important high ranking officials and possibly even the Emperor himself. Chinese historians are even talking about making a movie of this important artist and his contributions to Chinese art culture.
    The brush pot is in excellent condition with just minor surface wear.
    You will not find another one as another one does not exist. Exceedingly rare and important object only to accelerate in terms of value over time. Comes from a high end estate collection.
    It measures 4.8” inches tall, 3.9” inches long and 3.4” inches wide (12.2 cm, 9.9 cm, 8.6 cm).
    Would make a fantastic display piece, fine addition to a collection, or a great gift!
