    Description

    Original and rare Martini Henry
    Pattern 1875
saw back sword bayonet. This is the first type bayonet with a shorter 47 cm (18 1/2")
    saw back
    fullered straight sword blade.
Hilt with one remaing press chequered leather grip scale has release button to the left rear of the pommel and a flat screw retaining latch spring to the right.
Rejected by the Ordnance in favour of the longer, plain back Yataghan sword and 1876 socket bayonets the 1875 saw backs were, however, used in limited numbers by volunteer units both in the UK and around the empire.
Judging by the short 16 см (6 1/4") fuller, 20 mm diameter of muzzle ring and lack of any inspection marks, this is a
    volunteer bayonet
commercially produced at Solingen on Australia's order. No scabbard.
Saw back blade is service sharpened and pitted.
