Description
Set of 4 VERY RARE color slides of the original Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp (now Northrop Grumman Corp) Prototype Test EA-6A Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) “Electric Intruder” aircraft No.1E.This is the predecessor of the better-know 4-seat Navy EA-6B Prowler (also developed by Grumman). The aircraft is shown on the runway at the Grumman Calverton, LI, NY facility around the early 1970s. Note the nose-mounted pitot static tube, and the full complement of under-wing stores (fuel tanks and ECM pods)
The slides, marked “A13,A14, A15, A19”
are the original Grumman flight-test slides, in excellent and clean condition with clear sharp color images. They are circa 1971-72.
The EA-6A was developed as an ECM version of the highly successful A-6 Intruder All-Weather Attack aircraft. The aircraft
was deployed by the US Marines during the Vietnam War. It was p
roduced in 2 production lots (E1-E12 and E13-E24) and had 2 combat deployments.
Authentic Grumman models and images of the EA-6A are extremely hard to find, and these are very probably the last ones.
Thanks for looking.
